It’s All Good – By: Julie Herrick
Anything can go wrong on a trip. It doesn’t matter what the cause is or how you solve that problem. How you react is what defines the problem the most. You could have three flat tires or wake up really sick just a few days before you’re supposed to leave. You could even be afraid of making a mistake while drawing a picture. For this trip, our group came up with a slogan that seemed to define our entire trip. No matter what happened, whether it was good or bad, [...] Read more »
Why I am Going to Come Back — By: Sarah
Thursday afternoon, Sonel came bursting out of his home sporting his sweet new shades, baseball cap sideways; and a huge smile. While I thought this was a moment I would never forget, I could have not been prepared for what was to happen next. A small boy from next door stood on the front step next to the very joyful and proud Sonel. This boy stood as quiet as could be watching Sonel dance around in his new gear. When Sonel became aware of his neighborhood friend he immediately removed [...] Read more »

8/6/11 — The Last Day in Chantal
Saturday began with a great breakfast followed by a huge item sale in the front yard of the mission house. About 15 different venders from the area rushed to the property to get their spot on the floor. Although many of the sellers sold similar or nearly identical items, they were all beautiful. It was really a bit overwhelming because everyone begged for people to buy their items. After spending about 30 minutes in the front yard, we all bought enough to pack our suitcases full or run out of [...] Read more »
8/5/11 Reflection — By: Gail Greika
I can’t believe it is Friday night already…..tomorrow is our last day with the kids. We have had some very exciting experiences that I’m sure won’t be forgotten quickly. Like taking 18 little excited people into the ocean and trying to keep track of them, like getting off the bus each time we had to go over a certain bump, like the day we had a flat tire and had to stop and get out to have it changed, like wondering if we would be able to leave the mission [...] Read more »
8/5/11 – Evening Update
Hello! This is just a quick update: The power was out on 8/4 due to tropical storm Emily. Although the Haitian National Weather Service was expecting 10 inches of rain, nothing too severe took place at our location. The internet service resumed Friday evening. Unfortunately it’s too slow to post photos. Pictures will be posted with the corresponding daily update once we return to the U.S. Read more »
8/3/2011 — Life is a BEACH!
Today was beach day and so we would be on the bus approximately 4 hours. Well, 4 hours of singing Creole songs and then English songs and the bus was rocking. We passed curious Haitians on the way who were wondering why all the singing and excitement and joyfulness was exploding from a bus totally filled with Restavec kids, missionary workers, and pastors. Talk about a musical celebration! Then we arrive at the beach on a hot day, the kids turned into jellyfish and whales and sharks. They learn how [...] Read more »
